Money Market, Former Member of Access to Justice Fund Supreme Court of Pakistan

Winston Churchill, the UK Prime Minister during Second World War, once went to a mental hospital for a visit. On entry, a man sitting in a room asked him who he is. Churchill said he is the PM of the country. “First time when I came here I was also saying like this but now I have improved “the man quipped.”

This is how everyone thinks in Pakistan.

In another story a psychiatrist was conducting a group therapy session with young mothers.

“You all have obsessions,” he observed.

To the first mother, he said: “You are obsessed with eating. You’ve even named your daughter Candy.”

He turned to the second mother: “Your obsession is with money. It manifests itself in your children’s names, Penny, Goldie and Frank (German father).”

He turned to the third mother: “Your obsession is alcohol. This too shows itself in your children’s names: Brandy and Sherry. You even called the cat, “Whisky”.

He then turned to the fourth mother: “Your obsession is with flowers. Your girls are called Rose, Daphne & Poppy.”

This is how we are living in Pakistan where everyone calls other as Donkey, Buffalo, Crocodile, Horse and Doggies etc etc.

Frankly speaking in Pakistan everybody says that he is right and the other is wrong and corrupt. This mind set exists at all level in Pakistan but visibly it reflects more in retired officers whether they come from the civil or military side.

There is another case in Pakistan. No doubt Pakistan Army is one of the finest Army in the world with its infrastructure based on Military Science. But why we make it controversial by bringing it in front of Civilian population of Pakistan that incorporates Doctors, Engineers, Scientists, Writers, Poets, Professors, Workers, Politicians, Farmers, Kissans, Students or even Clerks. Most people do not know that when Einstein sent his thesis on “Theory of Relativity”, he was a clerk in a post office in Germany. So it depends on some ones perception to take a view for other. Most importantly all insane and illiterate persons view others like their copy paste.

But here we should try to get rid of the situation like a man who phoned a mental hospital and asked the receptionist if there is anybody in Room 27.She went and checked, and came back to the phone, telling him that the room is empty.“Good,” says the man. “That means I must have really escaped.”

In my life once I visited Agha Khan Psychiatry. There I saw two patients. One male patient was walking from one wall to another and then coming back. He used to do this all the time till hospital staff forces him to go to bed or take some meal. Another girl who was very pretty came towards me and asked “Uncle have you got something”. I gave her some sweets. Then I asked why she is here. Her answer was that she was fine but when she goes to home some satanic forces attack her.

These two examples are enough to explain our national behavior where we do not go for any solution going above our personal interest and secondly we do not want to reach to some practical and confine our self by saying “Allah khair Karrega”. This is totally against the spirit of Islam that asks for practical steps not for self but for the whole society with the blessings of God.

Now in 2019 we can take a look out of such mindsets and take some breath in the fresh air with new ideas and objectives.

What they can be. To start with everyone agrees that we need rule of law and justice for everyone with strict accountability institutions for all without any distinction.

Pakistan was created with this idea but then it shifted towards Taqlidi Islam on religious front and dictatorships on political fronts whether military or civil.

Taqlidi Islam gave birth to sectarian divide with emergence of Mujahedeen either in form of Taliban or some other groups with Madrasahs as providers for their work force. We are now seeing its results with thousands of soldiers, innocent people and above all children’s have been massacred by these people in the name of Islam.

On economic front dilemmas of the governments exist that mostly they do not choose right people for the job. In this regard selection of people who have served either Zaradri or Nawaz Sahrif or IMF means to continue with status quo. That is why we in August 2019 are facing the biggest fiscal deficit going above 8% of GDP. What a selection and its result.

On Kashmir our PM says that Arab countries, US, Europe Russia who are not supporting Pakistan at the moment would come to our help and support us on Kashmir very soon. How it is possible when these countries are not with Kashmir right now when it is burning. A fool can just have such expectations from these countries in present or in future.

A US foreign secretary once said that Pakistan is a unique country where two governments mostly run the country, where everybody has two faces and where everything has double standard.

Now a step going forward Sh Rasheed has predicted that he is expecting war between India and Pakistan in October and November this year. In the mind he may have thought that Atom Bombs of Pakistan have not been kept to blast them in my (Sh Rasheed) marriage.

To fight for Kashmir it is not enough to say that for Kashmir we would go to our last extent. Than question arises that what this extent is.

In simple words a strong Pakistan economically and politically, best foreign policy and diplomacy with atomic arsenal for defense are the right answers. On these points government should come up with their road map otherwise people would say that government is just talking and talking about Kashmir.
