Saving Pakistan by Changing Mindset

Muhammad Arif : Chairman Centre of Advisory Services for Islamic Banking and Finance (CAIF), Former Head of FSCD SBP, Former Head of Research ArifHabib Investments and Member IFSB Task Force for development of Islamic Money Market, Former Member of Access to Justice Fund Supreme Court of Pakistan

We want to make our country like Riaste Madinna but how.

It was evening of and I was on evening walk in my locality i.e. Falcon Complex Mali Cantt. During walk most honorable person of the locality met me at Road. After Dua Slam we went in to an undesired discussion starting from the issue of Riba or interest. On my indication that still Supreme Court of Pakistan had not been able to interpret it he said that they cannot do this as Supreme Court of Pakistan is not competent. He then went further by saying that I do not know what Quran says on this subject and he is better than me in understanding Islam.

To explain in detail these allegations is not to exploit the matter further but the objective is to point out that the persons who have retired from a senior position of the Military are not the only one who talk like this and blame others. But these people exist everywhere and in fact this trend and talking method has created a society in Pakistan where everyone is blaming other with the same allegation only to save his own skin.

In 1980 era, Taliban were created and now Daash is killing every one and smashing every building in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Nigeria(in shape of Boko Haram who abduct women ,use them and when they get pregnant pray that from them they may get true Muslims). This is how the true color of Islam has been tarnished in the 21st century.

So we have to look all these matter with caution. It is not easy to change this environment. Some stability have been achieved but Pakistan being now part of Middle East have to fight this evil with full force.

So what needs to be done? Strict accountability is required in this regard.

Now coming back to example of Falcon Complex we see that it is locality of few hundred houses with good people living in them but phobia of calling less Muslim and attacking them with abuses creates trouble some time. Last time its Imam was found indulged in terrorist activities and due to him five or six children were picked up by Rangers on suspicion.

Mosque is a scared place but unfortunately we have made it a place to force our view points on others and to blame others on our likings and unlikings.Rently an Imam of another mosque was telling his audience that Hazrat Muhammad (PBU) was not in favour of imposing any restrictions on traders. This is what he is telling in an environment where Panama papers are under discussion. Most respectfully I may tell him that though concepts came in Hazrat Muhammad (PBU) life but for their practical applications steps were taken later on. Like Hazrat Umar (RU) introduced practical steps for a welfare state including salaries of soldiers and medical and education expenses on government exchequer. For revenue concept of zakat existed but concept of tax was introduced by Imam Abu Yousuf during Haroon ur Rasheed time. If we accept that Imam saying than we have to abolish all regulatory bodies like State Bank, SECP etc. and to disperse our Military as 1400 years back Military was not an organized force as it is now. So what is the key for moving Islam forward is ijtihad and not Taqleed.

Here we must understand that accountability of every one is the main feature of Islam. When Hazrat Umar (RU) was not exonerated from this and he has to face lot of question than why not our Muftis who are not above Hazrat Umar.
